BREWING PRODUCTS
We made our first insulated keg cover in 1974. In the mid 1980’s we started home brewing, and so it was a natural to use our insulating technology and materials to help keep our brew cool too!
Forty Below® Keg Parkas™ and Forty Below® Carboy Parkas™ grew from that start to help improve the homebrew making process and achieve better beer and wine making at home, and for professionals.
One of the connections we have with our brewing products and the expedition world is that folks who go on long mountaineering expeditions do so for 2-3 months in some cases, and beer is usually a highly desired item around base camps, but generally not available, nor reasonably capable of being shipped or carried in to these exotic locations. It made sense with the advent of homebrew kits and modified techniques for brewing to bring the ingredients along and make your own! So, we have helped a few expeditions develop specialized brewing processes, ingredients, and tools together to achieve some way out brews!
Please check out the article on “Expedition Brewing” in the General Information Section, click here: http://www.40below.com/info.php#section_3 which is an account of brewing on a Himalayan Climbing Expedition, at the 15,500 foot basecamp of Cho Oyu, the world’s 6th tallest mountain, which is near Mt. Everest.
