Instructions for application:
The Forty Below® Repair Patch does a great job of sticking to neoprene, nylon, and other smooth fabrics, and is helpful for in the field and post trip repair of overboots and your other outdoor equipment.  We have applied it to numerous materials, including the the neoprene and nylon gaiter of the overboots, and also other nylons/fabrics such as tent fabric, jackets, pants, etc.

To attach the patch, simply cut the patch to a size about ½ an inch larger than the hole or cut, and be sure to “round” the corners so that the patch corner will not catch and peel back as easy.  In the cold, warm the fabric with your hands and also warm the patch with your hands, and then peel the back off the patch material, then apply the patch over the affected area, and then apply pressure with your finger or a round soft object such as the bottom of a spoon, to make sure the patch is firmly in place.  If you put the object on a firm surface or put your hand underneath the fabric to help provide a good base, the patch seems to attach and thus stick better.

An additional use for the patches is to apply a small rectangle of the patch material directly to the overboots where the crampon posts touch them.  This will reduce the initial abrasion of the metal to the fabric.  This is particularly helpful if you have crampon bindings that have a “strap-toe/flip lever heel”, as these bindings push the toe of your boot and overboot into the front metal posts, and the metal cuts into what ever it comes in contact with.  It may be helpful to put 2 layers in this area.  Other areas of contact on crampons are the rear heel tabs.

Additional patches of this 3” x 5 3/4” size are available to purchase individually, or in multi-packs.
